New Yorkers have a way of forgetting that there is an entire world beyond the 5 boroughs, and so when my friend Carol Pitts forwarded me an email from her father, a former NASF celestial pilot, I felt compelled to post the images and reflect a bit.
The juxtaposition of the Earth next to the various planets, then sun, then stars within the universe brings to mind the importance of letting go of our ego and being mindful of the interconnectedness and relativity of our particular place in space and time.
Just as the earth keeps getting smaller to become just one pixel and then disappear next to the stars in the universe, so does our sense of self-importance when we think of how small we are in comparison to just the earth.
I think this is what the artist Alva Noto is trying to get at in music and video. I’ll post some of my favorites in the following post. Don’t get caught up too much in your own world, Spring is here and there’s a beautiful world to explore. Hope you enjoy these pics
